Over the past week, the Microsoft and XBOX ecosystem has seen several exciting updates, from new cloud gaming payment options and major game launches to the latest Game Pass additions. These changes bring players more ways to discover, purchase, and enjoy games across platforms.

1. XBOX Tests Pay-as-You-Go Cloud Gaming for More Flexible Play

XBOX has kicked off a test of pay-as-you-go cloud gaming, giving players a new way to jump into their favorite games. Starting October 21, XBOX Insiders can try cloud gaming without a Game Pass subscription by purchasing playtime separately. Three sets are available: “10 hours for $3.99, 25 hours for $7.99, and 50 hours for $11.99”. Microsoft plans to expand access to more users in November and is also testing a free, ad-supported cloud gaming option.

If rolled out more broadly, this model could give players greater freedom to choose between subscriptions and pay-as-you-go access based on their gaming habits. By lowering hardware barriers, cloud gaming could also make more games accessible to a wider audience.

2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Launches Worldwide with Xbox Play Anywhere

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched worldwide on October 23 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with support for Xbox Play Anywhere. Players can buy the game once and enjoy it across both console and PC.

One thing to keep in mind: the game is not included in the Game Pass library at launch, so players will need to purchase it separately.

Meanwhile, new releases such as Final Fantasy Resonance are also joining the lineup, bringing even more gaming options to XBOX players.

3. Game Pass Adds More Games as Popular Titles Get Major Updates

On October 20, Xbox revealed the latest wave of Game Pass additions for the second half of October. Sandustry and Dodo Duckie are set to join the lineup on October 21 and 22, respectively, followed by Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted on October 29. With RPGs, puzzle games, strategy titles, and more, there is something for every kind of player.

There is more exciting news for survival fans, too. Grounded 2 has announced its major Rot and Ruin update, bringing a brand-new area to explore, a centipede boss to take on, and a beetle mount to discover. The update adds even more ways to explore, survive, and take on new challenges.

This Week in Review

From flexible cloud gaming payment options and blockbuster launches to fresh Game Pass additions and major game updates, XBOX continues to give players more ways to play. With greater flexibility in how games are accessed, cross-platform benefits, and a steady stream of new content, the XBOX ecosystem keeps opening up new ways to discover and enjoy gaming.

Also New This Week: Rust Rage

Rust Rage, a stylized realistic post-apocalyptic strategy tower defense RPG, launches on the Windows Store on October 23. Players step into the role of a shelter Commander, recruiting survivors, mutants, and androids as operators and deploying them across a mobile rig. Tactical positioning and skill timing matter more than raw stats, and rig modules can be customized to handle tougher terrain. Supplies and energy scavenged from the wasteland feed back into expanding the shelter, the one place worth defending.
